“Anything Outlandish, Bizarre, Is A Godsend In This Rather Stodgy Life. It Is After All Just What The Old Boy Said – It’s Only The Impossible That’s Credible; Whatever Credible May Mean...” Walter De La Mare
The expression of human emotion is one of the most entrancing things an artist can capture in their work. Glenn Arthur, through his highly detailed portraits, manages to capture a deep well of complexities in the faces of his subjects. A self-taught visual artist from Orange County, California, he constantly doodled and sketched throughout his early years, but his big push came in the form of a friend who saw his talent and encouraged him to paint.
Today his creations encompass symbols of his past, obsessions of his present, and visions of his future. Many have similar elements holding them together, pointing to their maker: hummingbirds, keys, and dramatic eyes that beckon one into the beyond, silently begging for their stories to be told. Glenn says these things are all infatuations of his, things he’s fallen in love with. “I think hummingbirds are simply the most fascinating creatures on the planet. I love the symbolism of keys and unlocking doors to new opportunities which is why I chose it to represent my signature. Damask patterns, ornate details, and crisp outlines are my lifeblood. And of course my latest obsession is succulent gardening. Such gorgeous little plants that come in so many colours and textures. How could you not be inspired by them?”
