I’m sure most of you celebrate your birthday with a cake and a payasam or kheer. Children around the world have different ways of celebrating their birthdays either with or without a cake.
The Chinese serve a ‘soubao’ to each guest at a birthday party. Soubao is a peach shaped bun made of wheat flour and filled with lotus paste. Peach, to the Chinese signifies a long life. A traditional birthday dish in Korea is seaweed soup. A Russian child gets a fruit pie with a birthday greeting carved on the crust. A Swedish birthday cake is always decorated with marzipan and the Swedish National flag.
