The Seasons of Alaskan Airboating

Larry has been airboating in Alaska since 2010, and I was introduced to the fun after we met in 2013.

The Seasons of Alaskan Airboating

We currently own a 2020 18’ Alumitech with an enclosed cabin powered by a 632 engine with a Century belt drive 2.67:1 reduction. The boat was built by Larry and the legendary Skip Olsen and was the first 84-in. five-blade boat in Alaska, thanks to Patti and Shelly at WhirlWind Propellers.

A diesel heater keeps the cab toasty during the colder months, and the rudders sport some beautiful custom wraps that Tonia ‘Painterchic Vinyl’ Suarez made for us. Before 2020, we had an 18-ft. Silver Dollar powered by a 572 CI with a four-blade propeller set up.

Winter

Not many folks run airboats in the winter since most everything is frozen solid, but there are some who keep them going on the snow and ice…we just don’t happen to be those people.
