Before we begin the interview, tell us a bit about yourself — what are you into or your hobbies?
People expect designers to like many designer things or everything beautiful; however, it ’s not like that for me. It ’s more of everything that has got to do with life. I’m a life junkie; I appreciate good music, art and handicraft, and I enjoy a good storybook and movie — I absorb anything beautiful and good.
This explains why my point of approach towards creation is very varied. Talking about the processes when asked about a project’s design approach is very tough because the approach is not linear.
I can’t say that inspiration struck me while sitting under a palm tree on the beach because it doesn’t work that way for me. That might work for certain design disciplines if the research is very logical. But for furniture or lifestyle projects, a lot comes from the injection of the creator’s background, and our research is based on the life we live or the exposure we have. That means that the point of investigation can be from anything.
