THAMES Water customers could end up paying 60% more for essential services as the supplier struggles to clear its debts.

NOW WATER FIRM WANTS TO HIKE ITS BILLS BY 60%

The industry giant yesterday announced plans to spend £21.7billion tackling leaks and pollution over the next five years. It revised the figure up from £18.7bn after water regulator Ofwat objected.

But it could mean bills soar by 44% to an average of £627 by 2030 and when inflation is factored in, customers may face a 60.3% rise to around £755 a year.
