A BOSS at the centre of the Post Office Horizon scandal said she never "knowingly did anything wrong".
Angela van den Bogerd apologised for the "devastation" caused to sub-postmasters.
But she told the inquiry into the fiasco she did not remember receiving a key email about the faulty IT system that wrecked the lives of hundreds of workers.
She repeatedly claimed not to recall a 2010 message telling her Fujitsu, the firm behind the flawed IT system, could remotely amend branch accounts.
But she admitted there were "rumblings" about issues with the system as far back as 2004.
As she was sworn in, Ms Van den Bogerd said: "Saying sorry doesn't change what happened.
But I am truly, truly sorry for the devastation caused."
Later the ex-Post Office executive who was portrayed by Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly in the hit ITV drama, Mr Bates vs The Post Office - insisted she never "knowingly" did anything wrong."&nbsp;
She added: "I apologise for not getting to the answer more quickly. But with the evidence I had and the parameters of my role, I did the best I could."
Ms Van den Bogerd held various roles during a Post Office career spanning 35 years.
In the 2019 civil case brought by campaigning hero Alan Bates, she was heavily criticised&nbsp;for misleading the High Court.
