C WEST
Openers David Ackford and Rob Grove dominated the Plymouth bowling in a game Yelverton went on to win by 176 runs.
League records are notoriously patchy as they are only as good as the data recorded – and there are virtually none at all prior to 1984!
It is certainly a record for the C Division for the first wicket as the previous best in the archive is a stand of 230 set by Ashburton duo Lloyd White and Dan Coles against Dartington & Totnes last year.
Whether or not skipper Ackford and Grove have set a league record for any division will take a few days to find out.
What is beyond doubt is that Grove and Ackford posterd new records for Yelverton players in league fixtures.
Having established the pace of the pitch, Ackford and Grove attacked the Plymouth bowling during one of the finest batting performances ever seen at Langton Park.
Ackford contributed 88 and Grove amassed an impressive 197 before being bowled by Sam White to conclude a club-record stand for the first wicket.
Grove’s innings included 14 sixes and 13 fours and is the highest score ever made by a Yelverton player in the Devon League. Yelverton finished on 326 for two off their 45 overs.
Yelverton’s total was always going to be challenging for Plymouth to chase and two early wickets from opening bowler Ed Sorensen put them on the back foot.
Although there were useful contributions from George Toms (35) and Sam Knapman (32), wickets continued to fall and Plymouth were all out for 150 in 40 overs.
The Yelverton wicket-takers were Toby Julian (3-38), Toby BeresfordPower (3-6) , Tim Baxter (2-27) and Ed Sorensen (2-25).
■IVYBRIDGE signalled their promotion intentions for the C Division West season ahead with a thumping 134-run win over fancied Brixham.
