THE water firm responsible for a diarrhoea outbreak has been fined 18 times for 10 years of polluting.
South West Water has forked out nearly &pound;5million.
Fines include a record &pound;2,150,000 imposed by a court last year for offences including&nbsp;dumping sewage in rivers, a beach and a nature reserve.
In the latest scandal, hundreds have been sick in the Brixham area of south Devon, with 46 testing positive for cryptosporidium.
The firm claimed tap water was safe on Tuesday but the&nbsp;next day told 16,000 homes and businesses to boil it.
It changed its mind after tests at a reservoir identified cryptosporidium, a parasite found in faeces which causes the runs and vomiting.
South West Water, which is handing out bottled water,&nbsp;thinks the cause could be a faulty valve on private land.
Often called one of the UK's worst polluters, it is owned by Pennon Group, run by &pound;4million-a-year Susan Davy.
She has apologised and vowed the company will "not stop working until the situation has been resolved." Last night the firm said most homes in the area could now use tap water safely without boiling it first, although some 2,500 should keep doing so.
Chief customer officer Laura Flowerdew said: "We urge customers who are unsure to visit the postcode checker on our website."
