We welcome our readers to the 38th Edition of the
Australian Deer Hunter magazine. October already…
gee this is really flying along.
It also means that the warmer months will be upon us
shortly, but October is also a prime time to hunt
Sambar deer. Sambar deer are by far the highest
revered deer in Australia, an honour well deserved as
our premier game animal. They are the most
established species of deer in Australia and are by far
the hardest to successfully hunt. Remember the gates
reopened on the Melbourne Cup long weekend. A
great advantage to be gained from this type of hunting
is access as the deer would have had very little
hunting pressure for the last 4½ months of the year
apart from the backpack hunters.
Taking a closer look at this Edition we have some
cracker Technical articles. We welcome Jake Morgan
back after his leave of absence while moving the
family from Wangaratta back to Colac, so look out for
more great articles from Jake. Noel brings the art of
blood trailing and finding a wounded deer. Toby
Haynes takes a look at Binocular harness systems and
Matthew Schmidt brings the 35 Whelen to the Classic
Deer Hunting Cartridges series.
