In this issue

Welcome to another issue of Royal Life, this issue is packed with wonderful features as always, and the emphasis is rightly on the Royal Family’s part in 2014’s historic D-Day commemorations. On what may well be her final official visit to France, Her Majesty paid tribute to the “immense and heroic endeavour” of the soldiers who took part in the Invasion, and spoke of the “incredible sacrifices” they made.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also travelled to Normandy to mark the 70-year anniversary of this world-changing event, and there were many moving scenes as they encountered courageous veterans of the conflict.

Having just turned 93, Prince Philip is the only surviving member of the British Royal Family to have actually fought in World War II, and at one point he even met an old comrade, Len Bloomfield. The 92-year old former Royal Marine told the Queen he had served with the Duke in the 1940s in the Mediterranean, at which point she turned to her husband and said: ‘Philip there is someone here who wants to meet you.” The two then shared some emotional memories of those days.

Prince Harry didn’t make it to the Normandy commemorations but he laid a wreath in remembrance of those who died at the battle of Monte Cassino on a visit to Estonia and Italy.

We report on this and on Prince Harry’s sterling work in promoting the GREAT Campaign to champion British Business and Britain as a Great place to do business, to invest, to study and to visit. It was the GREAT campaign that arranged for David Bailey to take the Queen’s wonderful 88th birthday photographs, and you can see more of his iconic work in this issue, which we’re sure you will find a royal treat.
