In this issue
In this issue of International Metalworking News- Middle East & Africa, Tooling & Workholding section presents an article about insert failure and its negative impact on manufacturing equipment. This malfunction is similar to an athlete exhausting a good pair of running shoes. Much like a shoe under the weight of the runner wearing it, an insert endures tremendous stress over and over again, creating wear and tear. If not addressed, wear can cause inaccurate processes or poor productivity. Manufacturers can analyse used tooling to achieve maximum tool life and predict tool usage, reducing equipment deterioration.
Another major editorial highlight in this issue is about component machining with robots instead of CNC machine tools, which are gaining importance recently. The Metal Cutting Equipment section points the reasons for this. We all know that robots are highly flexible and can be universally adjusted to different tasks with minimal, often acceptable limitations to precision. Above all, this results in a very cost-effective solution for industrial machining. toolcraft is premièring the RoboBox in installation size H1,800xW1,800xD1,800 mm. This solution is the offline programming in the same programming language as for CNC machine tools.
Finally, precise measuring instead of calculating an approximation can be facilitated by an innovative technology for the optical measurement of gaps and fold edges. The CALIPRI profile measurement device developed by NextSense uses no less than three laser lines for the scanning of profiles.
This allows for the swivelling of the measurement device and enables measurements from different perspectives. The swivelling capability permits the device to analyse body gaps of sheet-metal body parts that form gaps. Find out more when you read the Inspection/Measurement Equipment section in this magazine.
