Nasib Pekerja Maritim

Agustus menjadi bulan penting bagi pekerja maritim di seluruh dunia, termasuk Indonesia. Pada 20 Agustus tahun ini, Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) memasuki tahap pemberlakuan. Secara umum, MLC mencakup dua hal, yakni perlindungan terhadap pekerja maritim dan mendorong terciptanya iklim persaingan sehat di dunia pelayaran.

Pelayaran, yang melayani 90%% perdagangan dunia menjadikan pekerja maritim sebagai bagian penting bagi perekonomian dunia. Sudah saatnya dunia tidak lagi mengizinkan perusahaan pelayaran mengandalkan upah murah dan fasilitas pekerjaan yang minim dalam memenangkan persaingan.

Di tengah kelambanan pemerintah meratifikasi MLC, kita perlu menghargai langkah-langkah yang sudah ditempuh KPI dan BNP2TKI membenahi sistem dan prosedur perekrutan, penempatan dan perlindungan pekerja maritim Indonesia yang bekerja di kapalkapal asing di luar negeri. Langkah darurat ini penting mengingat saat ini terdapat sekitar 250 ribu orang pekerja maritim Indonesia di luar negeri.

Sebagai negara pengerah tenaga kerja maritim terbesar ketiga setelah Filipina dan India, Indonesia tentu tidak bisa mengabaikan implikasi MLC terhadap daya saing pekerja maritim Indonesia di dunia.

Kami berharap upaya konsolidasi antara kementerian perhubungan dan kementerian tenaga kerja segera tuntas. Semoga semangat kemerdekaan 17 Agustus mengingatkan kita semua tentang salah satu tujuan berdirinya negara ini, yaitu melindungi segenap tumpah darah Indonesia.

Dan, bukankah bangsa ini selalu berbangga diri sebagai keturunan pelaut yang ulung?
