Union Cabinet Approved National Bio-fuel Policy The Cabinet on May 16, 2018 approved the National Policy on Biofuels which will allow of ethanol produced from damaged foodgrains, rotten potatoes,
corn and sugar beet with petrol to cut oil imports by ` 4000 crore for the year 2018.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled India's first 12000 horsepower electric locomotive from Bihar's Madhepura locomotive factory on April 10, 2018. Developed at Madhepura's Electric Locomotive Factory at Bihar, the all-electric high-speed train is the first big Make-in-India project completed by Alstom of France. Each double section locomotive will have a capacity of 6000 tonnes. With a speed of 120 km/hr, the high-speed all-electric locomotive will reduce the congestion faced by Indian Railways. The heavy haulage locomotives will be used transport coal and iron ore. With 100% electrification, the new locomotive will not only bring down operating costs for the Railways but will significantly cut down greenhouse gas emissions as well.
