Highlights of Auto Today August 2024:

The August issue of Auto Today is out and our cover has one of the most eagerly awaited SUVs, the Mahindra Thar Roxx taking centre stage. This is an all-new Thar, that is bigger, better and most importantly, blends space, features and comfort that can be used by a family without diluting its off-road DNA. Our Top Story is an exclusive insight into the upcoming MG Windsor EV, with never-before-seen images of the CUV’s cabin, and some insight into the features and technology that are likely to debut on the Windsor. In keeping with the trends of 2024, we have three very distinct SUV coupes, the Tata Curvv.ev, the Citroen Basalt and the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe. (Four, if you count the GLE 53 on our #OdeToOutstanding drive). The Curvv.ev becomes the Indian automaker’s flagship EV, and pushes the standard of Indian-made EVs even further, while the Basalt is a big and practical SUV based on the ultra-modular C-Cubed platform. The GLC 43 Coupe meanwhile returns in its latest generation, with better performance and usability despite losing displacement and cylinders, but does get a sizeable price hike. Over in our Refreshed section, we have the Lexus NX Overtrail, and we tell you why this particular NX variant might be the best one to buy. We have also driven the facelifted Mercedes-Benz EQB 350, which brings in a fresher look and added performance to the family-oriented electric SUV. We pay tribute to our great nation on its 78th Independence Day with the #OdeToOutstanding with Mercedes-Benz where we took four of their outstanding SUVs and set out from the four extreme corners of our nation converging at the National Capital, to showcase the rich heritage and diversity of India. Our trip to Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy also included visits to the Lamborghini Museum as well as the assembly line for the most successful Lamborghini of them all - the Urus. Highlights of Auto Today - March 2023 issue:This issue is not all about electric vehicles as it would seem to be from the cover though sustainable mobility features heavily in it. The foremost amongst them and our main cover story this month is about the over 6,000km drive that we did with an electric car, the Mercedes-Benz EQS580. We stopped only to charge the car on the circuit connecting the four metros of the country and managed to get back to our starting point on the Golden Quadrilateral exactly 111hr and 47min later - a national record certified by the India Book of Records. In the process, we also entered the Asia Book of Records for the fastest time taken by an electric vehicle to cover 6,000km on public roads. The Maruti-Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) part-nership is finally beginning to reap huge rewards for both the companies and will dominate the Indian automotive landscape for years to come. Till last month it was just TKM selling Maruti’s products and putting its network to better use and generating some extra revenues for the huge in-vestments its dealers had made. With the launch of the Hyryder/Grand Vitara SUV it is now also putting its nearly idle 2nd plant, with a capacity of over 2 lakh per annum, to good use. For Maruti-Suzuki, the hybrid powertrain comes as a bonus and the manufacturing of the Grand Vitara frees up capacity for the upcoming shift of manufacturing out of Gurgaon. Highlights of Auto Today dated June 2022 issue: It’s raining EVs in our June issue with three new electric vehicles from BMW making their way to India and onto the pages of the magazine. This includes BMW’s electric flagship the iX, the smallest electric in the form of the Mini electric and the only electric sedan on sale in India right now the BMW i4, which has been aptly titled “The Unicorn”. Electric mania doesn’t end there either this month, we are also featuring reviews of home-grown Tata Motors’ new long-range version of the Nexon, the EV MAX and Kia’s first premium electric the EV6. The only ICE car that we’re featuring in our first-drive section this month is the Mercedes-Maybach’s new flagship S-Class that takes the “World’s Best Car” and makes it better. We also head to the Madras Motor Race Track to say goodbye to the iconic Volkswagen Polo that will be ending its production run in India after 12 years and goodbye happens in style, with a day spent driving the 210bhp, Polo Cup race car that reminds us all why the Polo was such a great car, a true testament to German engineering. 

Our road test this month looks at fuel-efficient naturally aspirated hatchbacks that can stretch a litre for over 15km even in the city, as the brand new Baleno takes on the old guard in the form of the i20 1.2 5MT. Arguably the most fuel-efficient premium cars out there, worth reading our detailed review if you’re considering either of these frugal but feature-rich hatches.  On two wheels this month, we finally get our hands on Suzuki’s baby V-Strom for India, the SX, that uses the cycle parts and the frame from the Gixxer 250 and repackages it as a soft-road adventure tourer for India. We also try out Triumph’s Tiger for the road, the 900 GT.
