ആദിവാസി ജനതയുടെ ജീവിതത്തോട് ഇഴുകിച്ചേര്‍ന്ന് അവരുടെ സ്വപ്നങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് കൂടുതല്‍ നിറംനല്‍കിയ ജനകീയ സാംസ്‌കാരിക പ്രവര്‍ത്തകനായിരുന്നു കെ.ജെ ബേബി. കേരളം ശീലിച്ചുവന്ന വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സമ്പ്രദായത്തിന് ബദലന്വേഷണവുമായി ആദിവാസിക്കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് പുതിയ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ പദ്ധതിയുമായാണ് ബേബി വയനാട്ടില്‍ 'കനവ്' ആരംഭിച്ചത്. പിന്നീട് കനവ് വളര്‍ന്നു. ഒടുവില്‍ ആദിവാസിക്കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് തന്നെ കനവ് വിട്ടുകൊടുത്ത് ബേബി മറ്റന്വേഷണങ്ങളില്‍ മുഴുകി. അതിനിടെ ആകസ്മികമായാണ് അദ്ദേഹം 2024 സെപ്തംബര്‍ 1ന് ജീവിതത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് സ്വയം പടിയിറങ്ങിപ്പോയത്. ബേബിയുടെ ജീവിതയാത്ര അനുസ്മരിക്കുകയാണ് മാധ്യമ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകനായ ലേഖകന്‍. 

ആദ്യമായി എഴുതാന്‍ ഉപയോഗിച്ച പേനയും അതിന്റെ എഴുത്തനുഭവവും ഇളനീര്‍ മധുരത്തിന്റെ ഓര്‍മയാണ്. പേനകള്‍ക്ക് നീണ്ട സേവനത്തിന്റെ നിറവാര്‍ന്ന കഥകള്‍ പറയാനുണ്ടാകും. സ്വപ്നങ്ങളും ഭാവനകളും ദു:ഖഭാരവും പ്രണയവുമെല്ലാം വാര്‍ന്നുവീണത് ആരിലൂടെയാണെന്ന് നമുക്കറിയാം. കല്ലുപെന്‍സിലില്‍നിന്നും തുടങ്ങുന്ന പേനയുടെ സവിശേഷമായ സ്ഥാനങ്ങളെയും വികാരങ്ങളെയും ആത്മാവില്‍ ചേര്‍ത്തുനിര്‍ത്തുന്ന അതിമനോഹരമായ ആഖ്യാനത്തിന് നാന്ദി കുറിക്കുകയാണ് കഥാകാരനും നോവലിസ്റ്റുമായ ലേഖകന്‍.
