The year of 2014 will be ending soon but our aquaculture industry is never ending in terms of development and finding new technologies for good management.

The EMS epidemic is still an important concern as it has significant impacts on decreasing shrimp production in many countries. On the other hand, shrimp production in Indonesia, India and Latin America have dramatically increased. They try to improve the intensification of the culture and promote domestic consumption, especially in Brazil. Culture intensification has become more popular than before. More than that, some restaurants in Brazil serve only shrimp in their menu, you can see in the article inside. Furthermore, Dr. Antonio Garza de Yta also updates us with news and events in the Latin American and Caribbean Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (LACC-WAS), including information about the growing production for next year.

Also, farm management is a crucial parameter for success. Dr. Imad Patrick Saoud from American University of Beirut, Lebanon, shared with us how to manage shrimp farms and biosecurity in a practical way.

Last but not least, EMS is not the only cause of lowered shrimp production. Microsporidian parasite is another cause of slow growth in black tiger prawn and P. vannamei. Recently, a research group in Thailand received samples detected positive for a specific type of microsporidian, Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) and warning the farmers to be aware. If farmers can control any cause of pathogen, disease and farm management, the coming year will have a light at the end of the tunnel for shrimp farmers.

Wishing that the provided information help all readers and shrimp farmers find the right and suitable ways for your farms.
