Summer is finally here, South Africa’s most vibrant season, ushering in bold, vibrant colours and long balmy days. You may have noticed something is a little different for issue 34. Following Summer’s suit, we have relaunched our cover, an exciting step forward for OBJEKT©South Africa.

Our new cover is not the only surprise we have up our sleeve this issue. We are ecstatic to announce that demand is rapidly growing across the country. To cater to this, OBJEKT©South Africa is now officially available in Woolworths. Like our beautiful country, we are blossoming and as we grow, so does our ability to showcase shining local talent.

We feature the Absa L’Atelier winners and their work, basking in that “new ambassador glow” in this issue. We also take a deep dive into The Cliff House on the Garden Route, Sergio Chinelli Architect’s most recent project.

Internationally, we are off on a summer whirlwind, from the exhibition of architect Aldo Rossi’s iconic work in Italy and the glorious Charlotte Perriand in Paris to the rustic luxury of Mezcal at Casa Colorada in Mexico. We top it off with songs and cigarettes, admiring the newly renovated Monkey Island Estate.

As we move into Autumn we can look forward to the exhibition of colour and texture that the season brings with it. Until then, we have scoured the globe to bring you the best in art, architecture, interiors and luxury living.

We start by taking a look at the impact German artist Walter Spiers had on the Golden age of Balinese art, for the first time, local artists were portraying everyday subjects alongside their traditional art products.

Emerging Greek artist Kostas Lambridis’ first solo show, at Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris, reconstructs iconic designs such as the famous Baroque Badminton Cabinet and Memphis Carlton bookshelf with material repurposed by the artist.

Local photographer, Tarryn Goldman, is breathing beauty through her camera lens with her latest project. Shot in the infamous Kempton Park Hospital, the high-concept shoot creates an ethereal beauty within surroundings of despair.

We also pay tribute to two creative giants, both of whom have had an impact on modern furniture design with their timeless creations, and delve into unique architectural works that have been designed to highlight the enviable collections they contain.

Our new OBJEKTS of Style has a selection of must-have luxury items that every modern urbanist needs to ensure they are Living in Style.

Starting in Shanghai with ‘Design and Wondrous’ the second temporary exhibition presented by Centre Pompidou x West Bund Museum Project in Shanghai, where designers look to nature for creative inspiration. Prada with the support of Fondazione Prada presents Rubber Pencil Devil, a site-specific show by American artist Alex Da Corte. We explore EDIT Napoli, an innovative design fair initiated in 2019 by Domitilla Dardi and Emilia Petruccelli to support, promote and celebrate a new generation of designers, and Rene Dekker is the king of colour, bringing vibrant, vivid textures and colours from the outdoors into the homes of his clients around the world. We also look at a stunning home in Lake Geneva designed by local architectural designers, Saota, before heading to across the globe to see the tropical-inspired “Havana’ Spring Collection, from Melbourne based fashion house OnceWas.

In this issue, from Brussels to Milan, we go behind the doors of some of Europe’s most unique and interesting galleries. We discover a stunning project that was defined by its minimalism and the purity of lines, before exploring a home with a high level of contrast and impressive scenery, inspired by the architecture of early-century mansions. We also look back on 20 years of fashion photography through the gaze of photographic icon Norman Parkinson. All of this and more are waiting for you in Issue 32.

In this issue, we visit the team at De Toren Private Cellar and taste their sumptuous wines, walk the streets of Salt River and marvel at the incredible street art that is bringing new life, and hope, to a community. Local photographer and artist, Tarryn Goldman, intrigues us with photography that seemingly defies reality, and Australian women’s fashion label, OnceWas, showcase their highly anticipated Déjà vu Autumn Collection.

We also celebrate the life and memory of world-renowned interior designer, Jaya Ibrahim, who’s timeless creations have an appearance of endless comfort. In Xi’an, H. L. Lim and his LTW Designworks team, draw from its rich history as one of the four great dynastic ancient capitals of China, while the design concept for the Grand Hyatt hotel was inspired by the famous, centuries-old Silk Road, linking the East to the West.

In this issue, we get lost in the beauty of the Kalihiwai Pavilion, the latest architectural addition to a 14-acre coastal property, Located on Kauai, ‘The Garden Isle’ of Hawaii, with the most incredible panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding mountains. Traveling to Ukraine, we were met with an incredible fusion of Ukrainian and Japanese architectural beauty, before embarking on an odyssey through the picturesque Southern Tyrol Wine Route in Italy. In the sky of Philadelphia, we discover a stunning apartment that was designed, and built, around the owner’s extensive glass art collection. An adventure out into the Namib desert, to experience that latest in bushveld extravagance at the Sonop and Omaanda Zannier hotels was a must-do, prior to taking the sublime BMW M8 and BMW X7 M50d on a trip to Jackal Creek.
