You’d think there’s no longer any such thing as a Series I that’s not worth saving. But when Gary Jones was asked to drag an old Land Rover out of someone’s garage, what he found was in such a state that it really was touch and go.

Happily, he did the right thing. And with a new chassis from Richards and a new bulkhead from Pegasus, a late 80” could begin to rise from the wreckage… and start its journey towards the front cover of this month’s issue of The Landy.

RIG Automotive’s latest 130 is the other kind of project, the kind that starts with the best base vehicle you can find and just keeps getting better from there. It’s a lifestyle Defender and also a top-quality mobile home – or perhaps an office you can take with you everywhere you go. And like everything else the company does, it’s stunning to behold.

A Range Rover pick-up that’s been laid up in someone’s yard after years of action as an off-road toy might not be quite as easy on the eye. If you’ve got a sense of fun and you like getting muddy, though, the bobtail featured in The Landy this month is a pretty likely candidate – not least because it also appears in the For Sale ads at the back of the paper! If there’s one thing better than a good Land Rover, it’s a good Land Rover you can buy…
