While we were wrapping up this issue of DA MAN, awards season started. It was certainly exciting to see the Met Gala return to its former offline glory, along with the 2021 Emmy Awards, the opening gala for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the Tony Awards, the MTV VMAs and the various international film festivals. As always, a big draw of those events is the red-carpet appearances, where what is worn can be just as important as who wears it. In short: The return of red-carpet events is a big win for fashion. As it so happens, our October/November 2021 edition also sees an uptick of fashion features. We have our usual lineup of celebrities, of course, including the multi-talented Reeve Carney gracing our cover, Max Osinski with tales from “The Walking Dead” franchise, Jerome Kurnia representing local talent and more. But we have notably fashion spreads than our most recent issues, from a round-up of the season’s key looks to an exclusive presentation of Dior and Sacai’s collaborative collection. The fashion industry was one of the earliest to fully embrace the potential of digital platforms to work around the limitations we face today. But there’s only so much you can take away from a virtual fashion show or touring a virtual boutique. Working once again on rounding-up the best red carpet looks—please head over to our website and social media channels to see our top picks—and editing fashion shoots has given us a more palpable clue of the resurgence of fashion. And, hopefully, this is also a sign of an eventual return to normalcy.
