It’s always a delight to hear about a designer’s source of inspiration – the coast of a faraway land, a once obscure traditional fabric, a city’s skyline – and then discovering all the references that made its way into the apparel that will soon find its way to a boutique or online shop. Of course, what’s truly mindboggling about high fashion is how there are people in this world who can see, for example, a flower, and then think up a unique way to visualize that flower and a hundred different ways to depict it on a dozen shirts, a range of dresses, several pairs of shoes, and a whole store worth of bags. When you see fashion enthusiasts or connoisseurs of haute couture rave and clamour over a certain collection or a certain designer, it’s that kind of visionary talent that they’re so enthusiastic about. So, as is usual every year, we dedicate our September issue to the talents that drive the world of fashion – especially here in Indonesia, and also beyond our borders. And there are always new stories to uncover and find inspiration within, such as how Sean Loh and Sheila Agatha joined forces to create a local brand, Sean Sheila, that you can now find on the official calendar of Paris Fashion Week. And then there are stories of those whose talent is finding and elevating that of others, as is the case with Faye Liu who founded The Clique, a PR company that has taken many local Southeast Asian fashion designers to the world stage. And for the crowning jewel of this edition, we have yet another kind of talent: the one and only Raisa, who shares with us her charm in a wonderful photoshoot in collaboration with Maison Louis Vuitton, and her story for one of our most uplifting articles this year. I hope you are just as inspired and entertained by the pages ahead as we were while writing them...
