John Eichelsheim makes a comparison between the Hauraki Gulf snapper fishery of 30 years ago with now. Arrum Ali takes us on a post-Covid lockdown landbased mission to the Coromandel. Pete McGregor took care of some necessary maintenance and upgrades on his boat and Dan Govier takes us on a South Island West Coast mission out wide to target a few deep water denizens with his mates while Alex Wallace has been ‘tagging along’ with the CD crew playing with a boat load of goodies — new toys — on the Hauraki Gulf. Incredibly, Alex Wallace caught his first marlin on light tackle while targeting kingfish with a livebait out west. Dan Govier has a new boat that he is enjoying getting to know intimately and John Eichelsheim is rediscovering that fish are made up of more than just fillets. Pete McGregor shares his journey from settled homeowner to being a land
bound nomad, then to putting down roots again and exploring new waters. He has been talking to locals about their land bound fishing techniques too, more looking in the cracks. Mark Armistead has spent time at the Three Kings exploring fishing options many steam past while Arrum Ali tells us about stumbling upon a marlin for his partner in a borrowed trailer boat. There's something for everyone!

In this issue we have more ‘satisfaction in the lesser moments’ stories, than ‘epic adventures’ to share with you. Naomi Peterson, Andrew Randall and Tony Dawson have focused on lesser moments, very small windows of opportunity. We’ve called these quite short outings ‘fishing quickies’, and each has a slightly different perspective and some wisdom to share as they relate what a fishing quickie looks like and plays out for them. Dan Govier  takes the family for a relaxed overnight potter and a fish in the Marlborough Sounds and a sneaky early morning mission for snapper close to Nelson.
Two of our team, Dan Govier and Pete McGregor have a rundown on boating etiquette which covers both conduct on the water while fishing and at the boat ramp, timely considerations and to be taken to heart to avoid the frustration and maximise the satisfaction of fishing outings. John Eichelsheim’s story about an outing in the Bay of Islands is a
delight. There's something here for all fishing enthusiasts!
