In-to The Future

The challenge we face today has been both unexpected and devastating, in the form of a virus that is spreading rapidly around the globe and that is changing how we live and work.

It’s become clear that we could be in this for the long haul. These strange, most unnerving times will go on and will test our resilience. This global threat invisible to the naked eye is everywhere around us making our lives and future unclear.

This is inevitably pushing us to question the way we live the relationships we have with each other, the nature, living beings, the whole universe. In redefining our lives, art has a crucial role to play it will be an inspirational guiding force for change.

Art can have an enormous effect we really believe that.

That’s what this issue ended up being—a cry out to anyone that will listen during these seemingly hopeless times. The art world isn’t going anywhere anytime soon in fact the art world is responding.

We are keeping up the good fight. The fight for a better world. We are in a period of lockdown, while across the world museums, galleries, historic sites, fairs, biennales and auctions have closed.

Yet, İstanbul is at the brink of a massive cultural transformation. Major museums and cultural hubs are going to open soon. AKM, the new building of İstanbul Modern designed by Renzo Piano and Sadberk Hanım Museum by Grimshaw Architects are some of the remarkable projects which will transform the city.

We focused on the kind of insight you cannot get anywhere else.

We hope that this issue can be a significant positive force in the months ahead.

Soon, we will step out of darkness, filled with a new vibrancy. There will always be an art world to pick up the pieces and carry on. We will survive this.

ArtDog Istanbul is an online and bimonthly printed arts and culture publication focuses mostly on contemporary art covering other disciplines like theatre, music, literature, cinema, design, fashion and architecture.

It features local and international contemporary art in all its shapes and forms, artnews, articles from recent and current issues, in depth interviews, special reports, opinion pieces and reviews.

Targeting both the specialist, professional and general audiences ArtDog aims to lift the barriers between artist/art and the audience. ArtDog acts as a bridge between global and local art platforms offering a colourful and intimate portrait of the arts and culture scene.

ArtDog Istanbul’s first issue was published in the autumn of 2019, along with a digital platform which is updated daily. Taking into account that a new and dynamic era in Istanbul’s arts and culture scene was about to start after a couple years of recession, ArtDog Istanbul is keeping a track record of what’s happening in the art world.

ArtDog Istanbul is bilingual both in Turkish and English and combines dynamic content with compelling critical debate, exploring the best in contemporary art and culture, in Turkey and beyond.
