Fruit Bushes For Free

Get a cutting, and away you go...

Kim Stoddart
Fruit Bushes For Free

At the time of writing it’s blowing an absolute gale and apparently worse is on the way, so goodness knows what climate change is going to throw at us this winter. Still, no matter the weather, how short the daylight hours, there is always opportunity for regrowth and enjoyment amongst it all. Taking steps towards the creation of new life certainly feels all the more pertinent at the moment, and is a reminder of the spring and renewal just round the seasonal corner. One of the easiest (and best) ways to go about this is to take hardwood cuttings about now, and soft fruit bushes offer a pretty fail-safe option.

If you don’t have any black, red or white currant or gooseberry bushes, then chances are you know someone who does. I think you’d be hard pushed to find someone who would object to a little snip here or there, and it’s the most fantastic way to bag yourself lots of new fruit bushes to be, utterly for free.
