Bacterial Disease Control
Bacterial diseases, unlike their fungal cousins, are extremely difficult to control due to the lack of suitable chemicals. For this reason, you should try to prevent these diseases from gaining a foothold in the first place.
The three important tomato bacterial diseases can all be transmitted via seed. Fortunately, most tomato varieties now planted commercially are hybrids, with higher yield, firmness and disease resistance. Although far more expensive, this seed is usually produced under hygienic conditions and rarely transmits diseases.
Using heat treatment, on the other hand, you can ensure that any seed is disease-free. Simply heat water in a pot to 50°C, place the seeds in the hot water, and stir continuously for 25 minutes.
Keep a kettle filled with hot water and a jug of cold water handy. As the temperature in the pot lowers, add some hot water from the kettle; if it rises above 50°C, add the cold water.
