MORE accuracy and consistency in scoring and the ability to hold judges to account would be the benefits of a code of points used in dressage, it has been proposed.
The FEI’s dressage judging working group revealed its initial findings from a study into perception of the sport — and the weaknesses of the current system.
The group had analysed the system, and looked at methods used in vaulting and reining, after “issues were raised” about judging.
Dressage committee chairman Frank Kemperman said common perceptions include inconsistent application of standards, lack of understanding of differences in scoring and judges’ bias.
