“FIONA will support the hunt come what may and will step in and help whenever something needs doing,” says Mary Perry, joint-master of the Cotley Harriers, when asked about the hunt secretary Fiona Benger.
Nothing illustrates this better than the misfortune that brought her into the onerous task of being hunt secretary. The previous incumbent had an accident and broke his leg 14 years ago. Fiona stepped in to help and has been doing it ever since.
Fiona’s parents had both hunted but, as she was brought up on Guernsey in the Channel Islands, her only experience of hunting was the annual visit of the Jersey Draghounds. It was not until she got married and moved to East Devon that she discovered the hunting bug and became a regular with the Cotley, her local pack.
