Only ponies in RIHS and HOYS qualifiers require height certificates
FOR the first time in its 49-year history, the British Show Pony Society (BSPS) is to allow plaited ponies without Joint Measurement Board (JMB) height certificates to compete in its affliated height-restricted classes, up to and including championship level.
From January, only entrants in Royal International (RIHS) and Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) qualifiers will need JMB certificates, which cost £87 and often involve costly long journeys to official JMB measuring pads.
“We want to encourage more people to experience and enjoy top-level affliated competition,” said BSPS general secretary Karen Toynton Ward. “For many, the cost of measurement is a barrier; not everyone wants to compete in HOYS or RIHS classes.
