Michael Owen wins big on home soil, riding veteran The Highland Prince.

MICHAEL OWEN flew round Kelsall Hill’s great, galloping track to win the £1,000-to-the-winner advanced intermediate, sponsored by Istanbul BBQ, Chester. It was a close-run thing with just 0.4 of a point separating Michael and G Mayer Plant Hire Ltd’s The Highland Prince from 2015 winner Last Secret, ridden by Paul Sims, who also won last year’s renewal with Mystic Million. Louise Harwood and Whitson were third, a further mark behind.
Michael has ridden the 17-year-old Highland King gelding right through his eventing career, including two of his first three events, which were at Kelsall and did not go quite to plan.
