To your pet, what you may see as just a cage is their entire home, so be sure to pick the perfect one for your little critter.
There are a great deal of cages you can find in pet stores and you may be confused as to which one would make the best home for your fur kid — especially if you are a new pet owner. Whether you have hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils or any kind of small pet, they each have their own needs; meaning there are certain differences in cages that would make them happiest.
When choosing the right cage for your pet, there are some basic factors to consider: The animal’s size, their needs, your needs and where you will place the cage.
Pet’s size
Needless to say, the most crucial factor to note is the size of the animal itself. Even if your pet is still small in its early age, keep in mind that they may grow to a size that is much bigger than they are now. As such, you may want to consider getting a cage big enough for them to comfortably grow into, rather than one that fits just right for now. This, in the long run, can save you money as you will be buying one single cage rather than two (or more) in different sizes.
Smaller pets, such as mice, are able to squeeze through the tiniest spaces, so avoid cages with wide spaces in between each bar; otherwise, your pet may escape or get themselves stuck in between the bars. Yet, this does not mean that you should settle with using an aquarium as an enclosure — the solid walls lead to a lack ventilation and air flow, as well as allow humidity and dust to build up.
