“I was fortunate to attend the first ever letterheads in the UK, hosted by Marc Curbishley in Cheshire in the early 90’s. There was only about 20 of us, if that. I met there for the first time Jon Leeson and his father Ray and Dave Smith, it was the start of an early friendship not only with them but with fellow Signwriters who used the Letterhead movement as a basis to share and learn from each other.

Each and every year after that I attended these and like many others volunteered my services to run workshops, seminars or talks, be it woodgraining, carving, gilding and lettering. The last 3 years or so has seen a renaissance of hand lettering and I have had many requests to teach this, after a bit of thought I approached Sam Roberts of Www.betterletters.co, he was currently helping my friend Mike Meyer run these, and I soon understood that it was something you couldn’t organise alone.
