When the second-generation Tiguan was launched in 2016, it came with a short wheelbase and a long-wheelbase (LWB) version. India, as we know, got the short wheelbase SUV and while it was quite a fine vehicle it failed to set the sales charts on fire because it got up into the 7-seater SUV price bracket that is the seemingly impregnable and well-established domain of Toyota Fortuner with Ford and a few others mopping up the leftovers. So with the change necessitated by the switch to BS6 emission norms as well as the then-upcoming midlife facelift of the Tiguan, Volkswagen decided to launch the Tiguan LWB with its seven seats. It continues to be underpinned by the MQB A2 platform and thus, it is siblings with the Skoda Kodiaq and will go head to head with it when the Czech company re-introduces the SUV in India.
