Tata Motors has been leading the charge for electric passenger vehicles in India with the Tigor and the Nexon EVs making it the biggest four wheeler EV manufacturer in the country. Following up on that and the announcement of securing one billion dollars of funding for its EV business, Tata Motors showcased its Gen 2 EV concept in the form of the Curvy earlier last month. The Curvy is an SUV Coupe that will go into production in 2024 and is based on the current hybrid platforms that Tata Motors is using for its EVs. While the Curvy is the first of the Gen 2 EVs that will go into production, there will be multiple body shapes and sizes in its Gen 2 EV range.
However, the Gen 3 range will be built on a pure EV architecture, that will give it flexibility of not only shape and size but also the battery size and motor placement. The first of the Gen 3 EVs will go into production in 2025 and will be based on the Avinya concept that Tata Motors has just showcased.
At the global premiere of the Avinya in Mumbai, the chairman of Tata Sons and also of Tata Motors, N Chandrasekaran said that at the Tata Group, we are very uniquely positioned to bring all the expertise that is necessary to build these (future focused) mobility solutions and launch in India and globally too. The Avinya showcases what the first of these mobility solutions will be. As Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Electric Mobility says, “We asked ourselves why can't the ambience of wellness at home be experienced during transit too? So how can we leverage technology to work seamlessly in the backdrop to enable a soothing and rejuvenating experience in vehicles?” And the answer to that question is the Avinya.
