We Say: Mildly Amged C-class Coupe Is Here. A Good Reason To Rejoice?
75 lakh
India hasn’t really accepted the coupe culture well. No, I’m not talking about the sedans only; I also mean the SUV coupes. The only one that saw a few numbers come in was the X6. The rest of them failed to make a mark. But there’s a reason for that – not one has managed to hit that sweet spot between affordability, design and practicality. Either a coupe has been too expensive, not the best looking or just not practical for India. But that might change with this, the new Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe.
As you may have guessed by now, this coupe has the same underpinnings as that of the C-Class and with the way it’s been styled, it definitely brings a bit more glamour to the party. Sloping roof and two missing doors compared to the C sedan gives it an identity of itself and stands out in the sea of sedans like a pop star in a room full of bankers. And if you choose yours in a bright shade like this one, it’s good for every pedestrian to give you a second look as you pass through the streets.
Compared to the standard C-Class, the C Coupe gets a slightly altered face. It gets bigger air vents for the bigger 3.0-litre V6 to breathe better and a different grille to announce to the world that the lads at AMG have worked their magic on this one. The overall silhouette – with the long hood and the sloping hood – might not be to everyone’s liking, but if you were to ask me, it does the job well. It looks as striking as it should.

IMPRACTICAL YET IRRESISTIBLE
Exactly ten years ago, I took my first international trip. It was to Bahrain, a country of endless desert and skyscrapers, where my aunt and uncle lived. Among their friends and neighbours, one particular gentleman, upon learning I was a budding petrolhead, took an entire day off work to take me around the city’s showrooms to see some “normal” Middle East traffic.
