Many classic events revolve around the 1950s, featuring tailfins, acres of chrome and the music of Elvis Presley.
There’s no better place to immerse oneself in that milieu than Tupelo, Mississipi, birthplace of The King. Tupelo Automobile Museum offers its fair share of ’50s motoring memorabilia but, with more than 130 vehicles on display, the collection stretches well beyond that decade. Its cars span a century, including many rare marques not often seen in motor museums.
A 1958 Toyopet Crown Deluxe greets visitors by the entrance, a homage to the local Toyota plant. After that, the cars are arranged chronologically, from an 1899 Knox Porcupine (next to an 1886 Benz replica) to a 1994 Dodge Viper with only 12 miles on the clock.
