Held at Delhi, the 58th annual convention of Auto Components Manufacturers Association (ACMA) brought under one roof the stakeholders of the Indian auto components industry, and government officials and ministers. Touching upon the future of mobility, and how it will affect the auto components industry, the convention, with the theme, ‘Preparing for the future’, saw the stakeholders, ministers and government officials air their views on electromobility among others. Expressing their thoughts and ideas about the future of mobility, and how it will influence the components industry, the ACMA annual convention provided a platform to discuss about cleaner mobility solutions and the role of the auto components industry in it.
Stressing on the need to formulate the right policies, and provide incentives and subsidies, Nirmal Minda, President, ACMA, in his speech expressed that emobility is fast catching the imagination of policy makers. “The need of the hour,” he mentioned, “is a definitive policy to delineate emobility roadmap.” Stating that hybrid and electric technologies will gain traction and vehicle manufacturers will support localisation of components, Minda averred, “The Automotive Mission Plan 2026 as well as the rising GDP and infrastructure will contribute significantly.” Pointing at a big technological changes that are emerging, Dr. Abhay Firodia, President of Society of Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and Chairman, Force Motors, highlighted the need for contraptions, vehicles and devices that employ them. “Software and hardware will have to align with market changes. This will pose a challenge to component manufacturers, and to the vehicle industry. The Indian auto component industry is like an iceberg. Only the tip is visible. The real depth of the industry lies in its strength,” said Dr. Firodia.
