The perks of being NAKED

This unassuming bike has a special place in Suzuki’s range

The perks of being NAKED
The GSX-S750 is only a small part of Suzuki’s impressive GSX clan, but it commands a significant domain in the middle of the fleet. As there is currently no R version of the 750 in the range (but fingers crossed it will return soon), this is the only GSX available between the 125cc and 950cc models.

You have to wonder why that is? When the competitors are bringing brand new bikes to the segment, surely people are happy to spend the money on mid-range bikes in the showrooms. In Suzuki’s defence, it has the SV650 and the V-Strom 650, which are fantastic bikes in their own way, but there’s got to be room for more GSXs in the fleet.

What is it?

Regardless of what’s happening in the market around it, the GSX-S750 is a delightful bike. It manages to have that ‘big bike’ presence and plenty of poke to get a move on, but at the same time not carry a huge amount of weight (213kg wet) and not be loaded full of electronics like the litre-bikes tend to be.

In terms of looks, there’s not much separating the 750 from the big GSX-S1000. It has the same sculpted appearance, and to me it even looks a little more sporty.

This is no bargain bin special either. There are quality components such as the radial Nissin brake callipers and floating discs. Brake lever is adjustable, although the clutch is not. Mirrors are fairly vibe-free, but could be a little further apart to give a clearer view to the rear rather than showing a big chunk of your own shoulder.

Ducati Riding Experience

When I rode the Ducati DesertX to France last year, I did have a bit of an explore on some easy fire roads and gentle green lanes in the wilds of the Médoc area, but was left with the feeling that, had I the experience, the DesertX would have been capable of taking me along some more extreme trails to some even more exciting places. If only there was a way of finding out just how well the Italian adventure bike could cope with some more extreme terrain...

First Time Lucky?

It's ironic that the first all-new MV Agusta model to hit the marketplace right after Italy's No.1 trophy brand was acquired by Austrian giant Pierer Mobility, owner of off-road titans KTM, should be the company's first dual-purpose model of the modern era, powered by MV's all-new 931cc three-cylinder engine that's destined to form the basis of a whole series of new models in coming months and years.
