Triumph Of Teamwork

The Triumph Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X are here, to usher in a new era for the Hinkley manufacturer. Ever since its revival in 1991 by John Bloor (he bought the company back in 1983), Triumph has not catered to the volume segment, but that is about to change.

The Speed 400 is priced at ₹ 2.33 lakh, ex-showroom, and it brings in the kind of power and fit-and-finish levels not seen before in this price bracket. The machines are powered by a 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder mill pumping out 40PS and 37.5Nm. The powertrain is not derived from the 373cc KTM/Bajaj engines, as the bore and stroke of that engine are 89mm and 60mm, whereas the Triumph engine has a bore and stroke of 89mm and 64mm. Also, the drive chain is on the right side of the engine, a distinctive Triumph signature. Both get ride-by-wire, switchable traction control and dual-channel ABS, with the rear wheel ABS being switchable on the Scrambler.
