There’s heavy haulage and then there’s this: the world’s most powerful transformer, a Siemens 1100 KV UHVDC with a deadweight of 535 tonnes.
Moving this from Siemens’ plant in Nuremberg, Germany to the city’s port was the challenge presented to André Krause, project manager at the KAHL Group, and his team back in January.
In the early planning stages of the project, the specialists at KAHL realised that, with a length of 63 metres, width of 7.45m and a height of 6.10m, the laden rig looked set to become a record-breaker, the overall weight being 875 tonnes.
