There’s a limited number of people who would look at a rough ‘builder’s van’ being sold as a non-runner for spares or repair and see a potential prizewinner, but luckily Martyn is one of them. As a semi-retired motor technician, he had dealt with all kinds of recalcitrant vehicles and he was confident he had the skills to get this van running again.
The van in question was (is!) a LWB Caddy Maxi Highline, with the 2 litre 138bhp engine. It was only six years old, but had clearly worked hard for its previous owner, who’d owned it from new. Having previously had a T2—about twenty years earlier— Martyn was looking for something which would work as a camper, and this rather sad Caddy looked like the perfect project vehicle. So, a deal was struck and it went home to Wales, where Martyn set about the first problem of getting it to go. A new gearbox, clutch, water pump and timing belt later and the Caddy was brought back to life!
