Dusseldorf is truly an international destination with an abundance of experiences truly German.

History, Beer And Glamour

As I walked from the Kaiserwerth bus-stop towards my hotel, I admired the surroundings. Kaiserwerth district is famous for it’s Florence Nightingale hospital – called so because she had worked her for a short while and Mutterhaus which means Mother’s House also has a rich history. This is now a hotel called Hotel Mutterhaus. The world’s first “Mutterhaus” was founded in 1836 in the center of Kaiserwerth. From here deaconesses were sent out to work in parishes, hospitals and schools all over the world. In 2002, the motherhouse was completely remodelled.

A gothic structure, the interiors have spacious pure white walled rooms, and a sloping roof for those living on the third floor, charming arched windows, period furniture yet modern amenities, makes this hotel a charming place to stay. Tucked into a lane, with a library and open green spaces flanked by tall trees, the hotel looks majestic with its red brick facade and Gothic elements.

Situated just 20 minutes away by train from the main action at Dusseldorf main station, Kaiserwerth has it’s own eco system by way of a Michelin star restaurant, shopping districts and of course, the Rhine and it’s serene banks where one can walk, jog or run along its banks, or take a boat for leisure. Cafe Shuster is a great place for people to meet for a cup of coffee, to pick up a few cakes or breads, or just relax by yourself with a coffee watching the world pass by.

A CITY THAT BLENDS THE PAST AND PRESENT

Dusseldorf was famous for its trade fairs but now has emerged as a leisure destination with historical sights that trace the growth of the city. A large part of the city is devoted to the Messe Dusseldorf which can host 50 international fairs a year, the trade fairs began as early as the 18th century.
