A skilled workforce is a prerequisite in transforming India into a global economic powerhouse and making it a developed economy. According to a Make in India study, the labour force in the industrialized world is expected to decline by 4%, while in India, it is anticipated to increase by 32% in the next twenty years. However, current statistics indicate that only 2% of the total workforce in India have completed their training in developing their skills. Skill building is imperative to increase the effectiveness and quality of labour for enhanced productivity and economic growth. It is the driving force behind the financial growth and community development of any country. Skill building is a potent tool to empower individuals and develop their social acceptance. And, it must be complemented by economic growth and employment opportunities to meet the increasing aspirations of the youth.

Adding teeth to the cleaning industry

From where we stay, to where we work, and all the places we have ever been to need regular cleaning. Whether it is a car, toilet, kitchen, office or the utensils we use and the clothes we wear, everything requires regular maintenance by way of cleaning. In fact, many of these places may actually require a do over. Living in a time where almost every individual in a family is working, it is a blessing to have household help. However, it is important that this help is well trained and efficient to satisfy the needs of millions.

Garima, Diversey School of Hygiene, is one such Skill Development initiative for strengthening the cleaning outsource cleaning work to 'professional houses with mechanised solutions'. As a result, the organised cleaning industry in India has grown to an annual turnover over Rupees 1800 crore, with a growth rate of 30- 50 percent in the last five years.
