AS THE WORLD ENTERS THE SUPPLY CHAIN 4.0 era, Rajnish Gupta, Vice President & Head for India and Sub-Continent business, Zebra Technologies Asia Pacific shares in an interview how the trend will move toward automation which is about enabling businesses to create different types of work environments and allowing people to take on roles that are more interesting, fulfilling and career elevating.
What are the major supply chain trends to consider in today’s market?
The supply chain and logistics sector in India is undergoing a massive transformation. According to the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), it is predicted that the sector would expand at a compound annual growth rate of more than 10%, from $200 billion in early 2020 to at least $320 billion in 2025.
There are many different models of automation emerging:
• Robotics automation, which ranges from intelligent automation to ‘cobots’ to autonomous mobile robots (AMR) and even micro fulfilment centres, is an area of huge investments, with 2022 is set to stage for an explosive five-year growth period.
• Industrial automation, which includes machine vision and fixed industrial scanning, RFID, real-time location systems, will undergo a reboot. New technologies introduced in 2021 proved it was possible for industrial automation to be simple and effective – something that runs counter to common perception. Machine vision technology, that once required very specialised training to operate, can now be understood by tech novices on day one thanks to recent design advancements and technology upgradation.
