OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY OF employees - both working on in the offices and shop floors - have become all the more critical due to the pandemic that has necessitated manufacturing companies and safety officers to revisit the safety preparedness and arrangements with utmost care and attention.
To understand better how companies are working on their safety strategies post pandemic, we speak to Jarc Bernd who is the Vice President – Plant Technical at Bosch Ltd, Bidadi which happens to be one of the winners of the Manufacturing Today Awards under the Health & Safety category in 2021.
Here are the excerpts:
How do you see the health and safety issue is being taken up in the manufacturing industry in India, in general, and in your company, in specific?
For the well-being of associates, an established part of the Bosch leadership culture, is dependent on effective occupational health and safety. This is just as important as quality, reliable delivery and costs. And therefore an integral part of our activities.
The Bosch Group applies the following safety basics:
• Safety is the basis for everything we do
• As leaders, we care about safety
• We ensure a safe working environment for all
• We speak openly about safety
• We have a zero-tolerance policy to negligence
We base the activities and tasks for the organization on these five basics. These are discussed, specified, and implemented using a top-down approach with the personal involvement of all executives and their associates. This makes occupational health and safety awareness an integral part of day-to-day work.
