Established in 1958, TRL Krosaki Refractories Limited (formerly Tata Refractories Limited) has pioneered refractory production in India. Today, this Integrated Management Systems (IMS) certified company is a leading player in the country with a wide range of products like basic, dolomite, high alumina, monolithic, silica, flow control and tap hole clay refractories. Its key customers are the steel, cement, glass, copper and aluminium industries. Having always been at the vanguard of cutting-edge technology, the company is now looking at bringing in new refractory technologies from Krosaki Harima for improving the efficiency of the steel casting area. The company is also looking at the copper and aluminum markets to boost growth, Priyabrata Panda, Managing Director, TRL Krosaki, tells Madhumita Mookerji. Excerpts:

What is the refractory production capacity at TRL Krosaki like?

TRL Krosaki’s consolidated production capacity is 4.6 lakh tons per annum.

Where do you have your plants?

Our mother plant is located in Belpahar, Odisha, with a capacity of 2.5 lakh tons per annum. We also have 2 small operations in Salem and Jamshedpur apart from one operation in Bayuquan, Yingkou city of China for basic unburnt refractory material which has a capacity of 90,000 tons per annum. We also have 2 extended operations in Niwari, Madhya Pradesh and Samakhiali, in Gujarat.

The capacity at our Jamshedpur unit is 30,000 tons per annum and in Salem, it is 15,000 tons per annum.

What is TRL Krosaki’s market share?

As a standalone player, with around 15 percent share, we are the market leader.
