Their reputation for having one of the strongest marriages in showbiz has come under intense scrutiny over recent months – especially after they were forced to deny divorce rumours in June following a series of accusations that they had appeared “miserable” together in public.

And speculation over the state of Victoria and David Beckham’s 19-year marriage reached fever pitch last week when it was reported that the fashion designer, 44, had fled to a detox spa in Germany that specialises in emotional well being, and “cried for two days” – something her rep denied – after David’s hurtful admission during a TV interview that marriage is “always hard work” and “complicated”.
