There’s this whole debate about nepotism raging in our industry right now.
That’s good because any sort of dialogue is good. This led me to have a look at our film history. And the history of our superstars in particular. My mind led me towards Ashok Kumar Ganguly, a man who could safely be called our first genuine superstar. His natural ease in front of the camera and his dapper sensibilities were much admired back then. But he was a rank outsider discovered by Devika Rani. He had a supremely talented brother Kishore Kumar, the genius of the family.
