Diljit Dosanjh Has Scored a Hat-trick by Walking Away With Three Filmfare Trophies This Year. the Superstar of Punjab Has Come Home to Hindi Cinema.
While he may dub himself as ‘pind da munda’, Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh’s fame has cut across the country. In fact, his first outing in Hindi cinema, Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab, won him the Black Lady early this year. And even as praise for his act as singer Roop Lal Phillauri in Phillauri continues, he’s celebrating a double win back home in Punjab. At the recently held Jio Filmfare Awards Punjab 2017, he walked away with two trophies – one for Best Playback Singer (Male) for his number Mitra de junction (Sardarji 2) and the other for Best Actor In A Leading Role (Male) for his act in Ambarsariya.
The dapper Diljit has wrapped up shooting for Balaji Motion Pictures’ Super Singh, directed by Anurag Singh, the first ever superhero film in Punjabi cinema. The earthy actor however prefers to downplay his stardom. “I’m not Amitabh Bachchan or Salman Khan. They’re superstars. I’m not even as big as Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma or Kareena Kapoor Khan. I’m still that normal guy who dreams of creating that chart busting music,” he says.
Tell him that his performance in Anushka Sharma’s ghost saga Phillauri has been much talked about and he beams. Diljit, who incidentally played an exorcist in his Punjabi film Sardarji (2015), believes in the supernatural. The reason he believed in Phillauri is because he believes in ghosts. Says he, “I do believe that ghosts exist. I sometimes feel the presence of my late maternal grandmother around me.”
