Nobody Did It Better - Fans, Friends and Family Pay Tribute to the Man With the Golden Touch.
Tributes poured in last week for actor and UNICEF goodwill ambassador Sir Roger Moore, who died in Switzerland at the age of 89 after a “short but brave battle with cancer”.
Sir Roger, whose wit and charm won him a legion of fans, was best known for playing James Bond. He was both the oldest 007, having taken on the role aged 45, and the longest serving, racking up seven films over 12 years. He previously starred in TV’s The Saint.
Current James Bond Daniel Craig paid tribute on Instagram. Referring to the title song to Sir Roger’s Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, he wrote alongside a photo of them together: “Nobody does it better – love Daniel.”
Sir Roger’s friend Sir Sean Connery, the first James Bond, said in a statement: “I was very sad to hear of Roger’s passing. We had an unusually long relationship by Hollywood standards, that was filled with jokes and laughter. I will miss him.”
Another former Bond, Pierce Brosnan, addressed Sir Roger on Facebook: “It is indeed with a heavy heart that I hear the news of your passing this morning. You were a big part of my life… the world will miss you and your unique sense of humor for years to come.”
Dame Joan Collins wrote on Twitter: “Devastated to hear about my good friend @sirrogermoore. He was the kindest, warmest, wittiest gentle man.”
Announcing his death in a statement on his Twitter page, his children Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian paid tribute to their father’s “passionate work for UNICEF, which he considered to be his greatest achievement.”
