Vaani Kapoor has raised the bar with her path-breaking act as a transwoman in the critically-acclaimed film, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. That she manages to draw the audience’s attention despite the presence of her top-notch co-star, Ayushmann Khurrana, speaks volumes of her growth as an artiste. Dressed in a trendy white jacket, minimal makeup in place and hair up in a casual knot, Vaani gives us her complete attention as she articulates herself for HELLO!.

The attractive actor is currently soaking in all the praise coming her way for the movie. She, in fact, interacted with several transwomen as part of her intense preparation for this complex role.

“Everyone’s story is so unique in their own way. Despite their individual struggles, they’re synonymous with each other,” she begins, elucidating the need to play such characters for better on-screen representation today. “As an artiste, if I can use my cinematic performance to draw attention to the plight of transgender people and help them garner justice, I’ll be happy.”

Vaani is endearingly animated, gesturing wildly with her hands, as she speaks on a subject close to her heart, her eyes mirroring her thoughts.

“This was so compelling a story that it became imperative for me to not go wrong. It was vital to depict the fact that transwomen are looking for inclusion and respect, not sympathy.”
