She’s known for her self-deprecating humour and unabashed confidence, but Amy Schumer wants you to know that she doesn’t do it for your benefit. ‘I’m not trying to be likeable,’ the comedian-turned-actress says of writing her book The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo.

The 35-year-old hit global superstardom when her film Trainwreck went big at the box office, and while she’s clearly already made her mark on Hollywood, Amy admits she knows she’ll never quite fit in with the A-listers – but that’s just fine with her. ‘I’m realistic because if I look my absolute best and go to an awards thing, I’m still going to be seated next to Blake Lively or Emily Ratajkowski,’ she says. ‘So that can break your heart or you can be like, “This is pretty good.

Amy, you’ve had an extraordinary few years. How exciting and fulfilling is your career and life? Well, it is amazing. Can you believe I just made a movie with Goldie Hawn? But I do not see myself as a movie star at all, I see myself as a comedian and writer. It’s great, but I haven’t changed. The people who are close to me don’t think I am interesting at all. My family, my friends from high school and the comedians I’m friends with keep me in check. It is fun to be able to get into a restaurant that I wouldn’t have been able to get into before. But sometimes I’ll forget that I am well known and I will leave the house with no sunglasses on and I’ll walk to get coffee and there’ll be paparazzi, and that stuff is not fun. I go, ‘Oh right, I’m famous,’ because I often forget about that.
